Caffeine: What do we know about it?
There is new research showing health benefits of caffeine.
Let’s start with some negative viewpoints about caffeine.
#1 Caffeine is Dehydrating
Not true. Caffeine has a slight diuretic effect, meaning it causes a small increase in urine
output which is not effective enough to influence whole body dehydration. Realistically
if you are consuming a liquid which will increase your urine frequency just the same as
you are drinking water, decaf coffee etc.
#2 Caffeine Increases Cortisol
It is not clear whether caffeine has an effect on cortisol (hormone). People who are new
to taking caffeine experience a large spike in cortisol that lasts through the day.
Comparatively, the equivalent would happen if you avoided caffeine for 5 days.
Caffeine raises anxiety, which can increase the release of cortisol.
It all comes down to your personal situation on whether you should take caffeine or not.
If you are someone who experiences anxiety, cannot sleep, unfavourable side effects or
battle with unbalanced cortisol levels, you probably should avoid caffeine.
#3 Caffeine Can Hinder Sleep
Age, stress levels, and mental health impact how you respond to caffeine. Research
shows that caffeine can alter our 24hour clock, altering our hormone release and cause
delays the release of melatonin which can throw off the physiological system and make
it harder t0 recover from and make your tiredness and lack of sleep worse.
Now, let’s explore the reasons to use caffeine.
#1 Legal Performance Enhancing Aid Available that is most effective
Caffeine reduces pain and increases fat burning therefore great for enhancing
performance and capacity.
#2 Reduce Obesity
Caffeine kindles fat burning and metabolic rate and taking it consistently is linked with a
lower body rate. However, if you have unhealthy habits then caffeine is not likely to
help lose body fat.
#3 Improves Concentration & Information Processing
Caffeine increases the molecules that stimulate the brain molecules, norepinephrine
and dopamine for greater recall and understanding.
#4 Improves Reaction Time
By keeping adenosine (a chemical that is present in all human cells) from binding,
caffeine can dull fatigue and improve the stimulatory response for a faster response to
incoming information.
