I’m Madison Jennings and I have been a CrossFitter for just under two years. I am pursuing my education degree at the University of Saskatchewan. I have always been very active in sports and have enjoyed many different physical fitness activities and facilities. None of these pursuits however have been as fulfilling for me, as my time spent at Synergy. My husband was a CrossFitter before me and I used to laugh at how sore he was when he came home from Synergy. Eventually I decided to take on the CrossFit challenge and have never looked back.
The first time I heard about CrossFit, I didn’t really know what to expect. I was amazed at the variety of workouts that I was involved in. From tire flips to Olympic lifting to gymnastic activities, I have never been bored with CrossFit. I found that at CrossFit Saskatoon the workouts are completely rounded out. My favourite type of workout is the metcon. This not only works on strength, but also on cardio and a little bit of everything. I have never felt such a strong sense of community, team work and a feeling of belonging as I have at Synergy. Each work out is a new challenge and a new sense of accomplishment. I can’t tell you how amazing it was to achieve my first pull up, let alone my first muscle up! Not only did I learn to challenge myself with others around me, but with the benchmark workouts I have been able to essentially compete with athletes around the world. It’s probably not hard to see that I am a bit of a CrossFit nut!
Building strength has not been the only benefit of CrossFit. Achieving the proper mental state with a positive outlook at all times has also been an outcome. At CrossFit Saskatoon, we don’t just stand in front of a mirror and do bicep curls. We grow together, as a community, physically and mentally. I have found achieving some of my goals has been great, but helping and cheering others to attain their goals has been even more rewarding.
