Hi, my name is Courtney Bathgate. Fitness has always been a passion of mine. From swimming, to curling, to dance (ask me to show you my sweet moves some time) I have found joy in being active. Through my University years my activity level sadly decreased as I concentrated on my studies to become a Registered Nurse. It didn’t take me long to realize that health and fitness should go hand in hand, so why as a health care provider, was I not taking better care of myself? Good question! This is conveniently when Crossfit came into my life. I started doing WODs out of a small gym with minimal equipment that was conducive to Crossfit style workouts. Then four months later as luck would have it Chad and Ian opened up Crossfit Saskatoon.
I was not sold on the idea right away. In fact it was Matt who insisted that I come and do the introductory classes and decide from there. I can remember those first few sessions very well for three reasons…1) I was better than Matt at snatching; 2) I never stepped foot in a regular gym again, and; 3) Chad asked if I would ever be interested in coaching. I had never thought of becoming a Trainer because I already had a job, not one that I loved, but an honorable one non the less. That day my mind starting thinking of the idea of new possibilities and I am grateful for it.
I am now working as a casual RN and working full time at Synergy as a Personal Trainer and a group class trainer. Every day there is something that happens at this gym that makes me love my job. When I got my first muscle-up I cried tears of joy. When one of our clients got their first kipping pull-up I had goose bumps. The look on peoples’ faces when they catch a heavy clean that they may not have been expecting to is priceless. One of our members said to me the other day that I have the best job ever and I couldn’t agree more.
